Nasarawa State urges citizens to avoid protests against Tinubu govt
The Nasarawa State Government has called on its citizens to avoid participating in the planned nationwide protests against President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
This appeal was made in a statement released on Saturday by the state Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism, Mr. Ibrahim Angbolo, in Lafia.
The statement emphasized the government’s commitment to democratic principles and the efforts made by President Tinubu to foster economic growth and good governance.
Angbolo acknowledged the economic challenges inherited from the previous administration but highlighted ongoing efforts to steer the nation towards growth and development.
“Despite the difficulties occasioned by the realities of the nation’s economy inherited from his predecessor, a lot of efforts are being made to get the nation back on a better pedestal for growth, development, and a stronger economy,” he stated.
He warned the youth to carefully consider the risks before joining what he described as a politically motivated protest.
“It has become imperative as a matter of concern to call on our vibrant youths to carefully assess the situation before taking the risk of joining a politically motivated protest,” Angbolo noted.
He cautioned that such protests could reverse the progress made in the country’s democracy and achievements over the years.
Angbolo expressed concern over intelligence reports indicating that criminal elements might hijack the protest to disrupt activities and loot shops.
“It becomes incumbent on us to sue for caution and decline any overtures to partake in the ill-intentioned protest,” he urged.
He highlighted the potential for protests to take on ethno-religious dimensions and lead to violence.
Angbolo called on citizens to support President Tinubu’s administration, which has distributed food items, enhanced security, and improved infrastructural and human capital development across the country.
He also appealed to religious, traditional, and community leaders to dissuade their youths from participating in the protests.
Angbolo praised Governor Abdullahi Sule’s initiatives in agriculture and industrialization, which have positively impacted the lives of the people, especially the youth.
“Nasarawa state remains one of the few states that sustained support through various forms of palliatives to the citizens,” he added.
Angbolo stressed that any attempt to stage a protest would exacerbate the situation. He urged the organizers to reconsider and cancel their plans.
“The Nasarawa state government is committed and determined to see that peace and tranquillity are maintained in the state,” he said.
The commissioner noted that security measures have been taken to resist any attempts to disrupt the peace in Nasarawa State.
