NDIC, Holds 3-day Retreat In Kano, Partners BPP

The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation(NDIC) in collaboration with the Bureau for Public Procurement is holding a three-day Retreat in Kano for its Senior Management and Executive Staff aimed at boosting its services.
With the theme:”Developing Innovative Strategies for Effective Procurement
and Financial Management,” the workshop
aims to ensure efficiency, transparency and accountability in the corporation’s operations.
The event which holds at Bristol Palace Hotel,is also to enable the development of effective strategies in procurement processes enterprise-wide.
In his keynote address,the Managing Director/CEO of the corporation,Mr Bello Hassan,said:”
We have identified the BPP as a critical stakeholder in our attempt towards
developing effective and efficient procurement capabilities, in realizing the Corporation’s strategic thrust for performance driven
culture, excellence and operational resilience, in line with its vision of becoming one of the best deposit insurers in the world.
“To achieve this culture, one of the resolutions reached at the 2023 Executive Procurement Retreat held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State was continuous training which underscored the critical need for capacity building for all NDIC Officers involved in the value chain of procurement process.
“This workshop, therefore, aligns perfectly with that resolution, aimed at equipping NDIC personnel with
requisite knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the evolving
landscape of Public Procurement practices, procedures and regulations in Nigeria,” Bello said.
In his address, the Director-General of BPP,Dr Adebowale Adedokun, said the bureau’s collaboration with NDIC is a veritable platform that must be used to continue to strengthen the procurement system, capacity of the Procurement Officers to deliver value, identify the inadequacies observed in the implementation process.
Adedokun said this is with a view to enhancing it within the instrument of the Public Procurement Act, 2007 which would serve as a Launchpad for improved budget performance thus leading to economic growth, creativity and innovations, advancement in technology “adaptable locally and globally for our country.”
He said the participation of the Bureau in the retreat underscored its deliberate commitment to ensure the full implementation of President Bola Tinubu’s 8-Point Renewed Hope Agenda through effective and efficient public procurement practices and processes.
“BPP since year 2007 has been conducting specialised trainings in all areas of public procurement. It has various collaborations with various professional bodies nationally and globally toward continuous improvement of procurement processes that is geared toward supporting delivery of good governance.
“So, I am proud to inform you that Nigeria through the BPP has a large pool of trained and experienced procurement professionals (7,000nos.) nationwide both serving and retired in all fields of specialisations that any Agency can engage to assist in their implementation of procurement activities,” he said.
The Director-General said the bureau is working closely with the nation’s Anti-Corruption Agencies on investigating cases of procurement related infractions which is against the Public Procurement Act 2007, mostly due to the non- compliance with the provisions of the PPA, 2007 and other Extant FG Circulars and Rules by the those involved in the procurement process.
He urged the NDIC “to continue to be thorough and diligent in the discharge of your responsibilities in the public procurement process with the highest sense of accountability, ethics and integrity.
“It is expected that this retreat will identify all factors militating against effective performance of your procurement related activities and budget implementation would proffer tailored-made solutions,”he added.
