The Adamawa State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has confiscated 1,081.9 kilograms of suspected substances, believed to be cannabis sativa (Indian hemp).
State Commander Mr. Femi Agboalu revealed this development during a press conference in Yola on Monday, where he also announced that the command had secured 174 convictions of drug offenders in the past year.
Commander Agboalu reported additional seizures, including 7 drums of formalin commonly known as “suck and die” and 28.013 kg of cough syrup with codeine. He highlighted a 25 percent reduction in the number of persons arrested and a 33 percent increase in the number of seizures made during the review period.
“While expressing gratitude for no loss of any officer and men of the command in the last three years, he acknowledged the challenge of inadequate logistics to combat the menace of drug abuse due to the increased responsibility of establishing offices in all 21 local governments and six zonal commands in Adamawa State,” Agboalu stated.
He extended appreciation to the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, General Buba Marwa (Rtd), and the Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, for their support to the command.
In the past year, the command recovered three vehicles and one motorbike used in the commission of crimes, and a sum of eight hundred and twenty-one thousand, two hundred and seventy naira (N 821,270) was forfeited to the federal government.
Mr. Agboalu further informed that the command successfully treated, counseled, and rehabilitated forty-two drug dependents, reuniting three of them with their families.
“During the period under review, the command conducted sixty-six Drug Abuse Preventive Education (DAPE) / War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) programs in schools, workplaces, communities, and faith-based organizations, with over 32,000 persons in attendance across the state,” added the Commander.
