The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has distributed essential food and non-food items to 2,261 households in Yobe State impacted by recent flooding.

The aid, which included rice, vegetable oil, spaghetti, mats, blankets, and clothing for men, women, and children, was distributed over the weekend across several communities.

NEDC Managing Director, Mohammed Goni Alkali, while flagging off the distribution in the three affected local government areas, clarified that the intervention is designed to meet the immediate needs and ease the living conditions of those adversely affected by the 2024 floods.

Represented by the NEDC Yobe State Coordinator, Professor Ibrahim Abba, Alkali explained that the relief effort targeted 21 communities in Potiskum, 2 in Nangere, and 5 in Jakusko Local Government Areas.

He stated that the provisions were intended to address the urgent needs of those affected by the 2024 floods in their respective communities.

“The recent flooding has affected many households across Yobe State. The Yobe State Government reached out to the management of the North East Development Commission for support.

“Today, we are here with the Executive Chairman of the local government, alongside the Executive Secretary of SEMA, to distribute food and non-food items to these victims, totaling 2,261 households.

“The Managing Director of the North East Development Commission, Mohammed Goni Alkali, has insisted that we distribute directly to beneficiaries so that no one is left behind,” said NEDC Yobe Coordinator Abba.

In an appreciation message, the chairmen of Potiskum, Nangere, and Jakusko local government areas thanked the NEDC and Yobe State Government for their support and for addressing the plight of the flood victims in their respective communities.

They urged the flood affected communities to utilize the items given to them for their intended purpose.
