New Commissioner of Police Appointed for Akwa Ibom State
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has welcomed a new Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare. His appointment was confirmed in a statement released by ASP Timfon John, the Command’s Public Relations Officer.
Born in Azare, Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State, CP Azare is an accomplished law enforcement officer with a wealth of academic and professional credentials. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication, alongside two Master’s degrees in Public Policy and Administration, and Crime Management, Prevention, and Control from Bayero University, Kano.
CP Azare began his career in the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police, trained at the prestigious Nigeria Police Academy in Wudil, Kano. Over the years, he has served in various critical departments, including Administration, Investigation, Operations, and Specialized Units.
His impressive track record includes roles such as Detective in Kano State’s Criminal Investigation Department, Traffic Officer, and Police Public Relations Officer, where he served for seven years. He has also held senior roles at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), where he spearheaded counter-terrorism, financial investigation, and anti-money laundering efforts.
Notably, CP Azare served as Commandant of the Nigeria Police Training School in Bauchi and held operational leadership positions in Gombe, Lagos, and Anambra State Commands. His recent tenure as Deputy Commissioner of Operations in Akwa Ibom saw a notable reduction in crime, contributing to the state’s relative peace.
A highly trained officer, CP Azare has attended specialized courses in riot control, financial investigation, and intelligence analysis in countries like the United States, Canada, Spain, and Ghana. He is also a Fellow of the National Institute for Security Studies and holds the traditional title of Sarkin Noman Katagum in Bauchi State.
The new Commissioner, an advocate for integrity and professionalism, is married with children. His hobbies include horse riding, reading, traveling, and listening to music.
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command and its residents anticipate a continued era of peace and effective policing under CP Azare’s leadership.
