New Year:Anambra Set To Deliver Accelerated Development – Commissioner
By Abdullahi Yusuf
Anambra State Government says it is fully prepared to deliver accelerated development for the well being of the people of the state,as the New Year begins.
This is contained in a New Year message to the people of the state signed by the state Commissioner of Information,Mr.Law Mefor.
“As the 2026 Budget has been signed into law by Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo CFR, Anambra state government enters the new year fully prepared to deliver accelerated development and deeper impacts in the lives of Ndi Anambra.
“With clearly set priorities and renewed momentum, the government reaffirms its pledge to make 2026 a year of greater transformation and impact for Anambra State in all its ramifications.
“As we step into this new season, the Anambra State Government extends heartfelt greetings to all citizens at home and in the diaspora. May 2026 usher in greater peace and abundant blessings for every home. May it be a year of greater unity, hope, and shared prosperity.
Furthermore, as we enter this season of joy and reflection, the Anambra State Government is compelled to issue a fresh warning: burning tyres on our roads is prohibited because of its destructive effects.
“While some may see it as a harmless tradition to “cross over” into the New Year, the consequences are far-reaching and damaging. When a tire is burned on a tarred road, intense heat melts the asphalt, causing cracks, weakening the structure underneath, and thus leaving behind deep scars that soon develop into potholes.
“These potholes then grow to the total destruction of the roads. This act, whether done out of ignorance or willfulness, is arson, i.e., damage to public property. It’s a criminal offence and therefore actionable under the law.
“Individuals or groups found engaging in such acts will therefore be held accountable in accordance with the law.
“Once more, welcome to a prosperous and joyous New Year,” Mefor added.
