By Hajara Abdullahi

The recently appointed Service Chiefs, accompanied by other senior military officers, arrived at the National Assembly Complex for screening on Monday morning, Punch reports.

The decision followed a reversal of the earlier announced screening date, which was initially scheduled for next week, and has now been moved forward to Wednesday, 29th October, 2025.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio earlier read a correspondence from President Bola Tinubu seeking the confirmation of Olufemi Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff.

Akpabio explained that the rescheduling was necessary to ensure that the new Service Chiefs assume duty immediately in order to strengthen national security.

President Tinubu had urged the Senate to work assiduously to ensure the confirmation process is concluded promptly, emphasizing that the move is aimed at enhancing the nation’s security architecture.

In a statement issued by Sunday Dare, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, on Friday, October 24, 2025, President Tinubu announced the replacement of the nation’s Service Chiefs, appointing Gen. Olufemi Oluyede to replace Gen. Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff.

The President also appointed Major Gen. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff.

However, the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retains his position.
