NGO empowers women in Dambatta with N3m to start businesses

Women in Dambatta local government, Kano State, have been empowered through an awareness and empowerment program held by the Bashir Yau Empowerment Initiative Africa (BYEI- Africa), receiving a sum of 3 million naira on Wednesday..

The program tagged ASALI is to bring about change and awareness on the health risk associated with indiscriminate skin bleaching, as well as training to empower women at the grass root in the community.

Global lead for BYEI-Africa, Zainab Bashir Yau, in an interview said the program is expedient to raise awareness and proffer solutions in order to mitigate the health hazard associated with indiscriminate use of skin bleaching cream.

Yau who also serves as the founder/ director of DERMA-RX (Aesthetic and Damatology) said they chose Dambatta local government as the sixth local government yet for their outreach.

According to her, the empowerment includes training women on how to extract oil from seeds like Neem, which they can sell and use for themselves.

She revealed that provisions have also been made to help them find buyers.

The community women commended BYEI-Africa for the awareness and empowerment given after the workshop training program.

Rakiyya Abdullahi, among others, expressed profound gratitude and encouraged women to abstain from using any form of bleaching products, sharing her experience as a victim of their effects.

Nafisa Murtala Ahmad, a seasoned veteran journalist in the state, joined the train to bring about awareness and change.
