From Mika’il Tsoho, Dutse

A non-governmental organization, Nutrition International (NI), in collaboration with the Society for Women Development and Empowerment of Nigeria (SWODEN), has sensitized 250 health workers and male motivators in Jigawa State.

Speaking to journalists during the training, Garba Muhammed, the state program officer for Nutrition International, stated that the initiative aims to enhance the knowledge of health workers on the importance of providing supplements to pregnant women at healthcare facilities.

He explained that out of the 250 participants, 100 were health workers, while the remaining 150 were male motivators from the Kiyawa, Buji, Kafin Hausa, Taura, and Gagarawa local government areas.

The program officer emphasized that the 150 male motivators were trained on how to support their wives and other community members in improving nutritional outcomes.

“Among the male motivators, we have tea sellers, traditional leaders, religious leaders, and other community influencers who can encourage others in their communities to support their wives in attending antenatal care and taking supplements during pregnancy,” he said.

He called on the general public to support this initiative for a healthier society in Jigawa and urged the participants to apply the skills acquired during the training to achieve the desired goals.
