Niger boat accident claims about 24 farmers, others missing
A tragic boat mishap in Gbajibo, a tight-knit community within Niger State’s Mokwa Local Government Area (LGA), has claimed the lives of at least 24 persons, predominantly farmers, with several others still missing.
The victims primarily hailed from Gbajibo, Ekwa, and Yankeiade villages, all within the Mokwa LGA.
Jibrin Abdullahi Muregi, the Chairman of Mokwa Local Government Area, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as a devastating blow to the community.
“Local divers have managed to recover 21 bodies so far, but the search and rescue efforts are ongoing to save those still trapped in the water” disclosed Muregi.
As investigations into the incident continue, the exact number of passengers on the ill-fated boat remains uncertain, causing anxiety within the community and among authorities who are eager for answers.
