Niger: Four Soldiers Killed in Torodi–Makalondi Attack

Four Nigerien soldiers have been confirmed dead following an attack on a Forces Armées Nigériennes (FAN) patrol vehicle along the Torodi–Makalondi axis in the Tillabéri region.

The incident occurred on Thursday when an explosive device struck the military vehicle on the Inter-State Road (EIS), officials said.

Several other personnel sustained injuries and are receiving medical attention.

According to security sources, the attack was later claimed by Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM), an Al-Qaeda–linked group, through its propaganda channels.

The group also released images purportedly showing the aftermath of the explosion.

The Tillabéri region, which borders Mali and Burkina Faso, has witnessed repeated assaults by armed groups affiliated with both JNIM and ISIS, despite ongoing counter-terrorism operations by Nigerien forces.

Military authorities have intensified patrols in the area as investigations into the latest attack continue.
