The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Muhammad Tuggar, on Tuesday paid a visit to the British Foreign Secretary, Yvette Cooper MP, in London.
This was disclosed in a post on the official X handle of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday.
The meeting, held at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) in the United Kingdom, focused on strengthening collaboration in key areas including trade and investment, security, education, migration, energy transition, and climate action.
“In London, I met with the British Foreign Secretary, @YvetteCooperMP, to deepen cooperation between Nigeria and the United Kingdom two nations bound by history, shared democratic values, and a commitment to shaping a more secure and prosperous future,” Ambassador Tuggar stated.
The meeting also reviewed progress on ongoing partnerships and identified new opportunities to connect innovation with impact from expanding investments in Nigeria’s technology and creative sectors to aligning efforts on renewable energy and regional stability.
Speaking on UK–Nigeria relations, Ambassador Tuggar emphasized the importance of human connections: “Our engagement also highlights the vital role of people-to-people ties and the Nigerian diaspora in the UK, a bridge of knowledge, enterprise, and culture that continues to enrich both nations.”
He reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to promoting sustainable growth through dialogue, saying, “We reaffirmed our readiness to translate dialogue into deliverables that improve lives and create sustainable growth.”
Ambassador Tuggar further noted that Nigeria’s diplomacy remains guided by purpose to build partnerships reflecting the country’s 4D Doctrine: Democracy, Development, Demography, and Diaspora ensuring that global engagements deliver measurable value both at home and abroad.
