NiMet forecasts 3-day sunshine, haziness from Monday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted sunshine and haziness from Monday to Wednesday across the country.

NiMet’s weather outlook, released on Sunday in Abuja, forecasts sunny and hazy skies over the northern region throughout the period.

According to NiMet, in the North Central region, sunny skies with patches of clouds are expected during the morning hours.

“Later in the day, there are slim chances of isolated thunderstorms (with or without rain) over parts of Kogi, the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Niger, and Kwara States during the afternoon/evening hours.”

In the southern region, NiMet anticipated cloudy skies with spells of sunshine during the morning hours, with localised thunderstorms likely over parts of Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.

“In the afternoon/evening hours, localised thunderstorms are expected over parts of Ondo, Ekiti, Osun, Ogun, Oyo, Edo, Ebonyi, Imo, Abia, Delta, Cross River, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa States,” it said.

For Tuesday, NiMet forecasted sunny skies over the northern region throughout the period, with sunny skies and patches of clouds expected in the North Central region as well.

“In the southern region, cloudy skies with spells of sunshine are anticipated, with prospects of morning thunderstorms over parts of Cross River, Delta, and Akwa Ibom States.

“Localised thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon/evening hours over parts of Osun, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Edo, Ebonyi, Abia, Anambra, Imo, Delta, Cross River, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa States.”

On Wednesday, NiMet predicted sunny skies over the northern region.

“In the North Central region, sunny skies with patches of clouds are expected during the morning.

“Later in the day, localised thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Nasarawa, the Federal Capital Territory, Kogi, and Kwara States.”

In the southern region, NiMet forecasted cloudy skies with spells of sunshine in the morning, with localised thunderstorms in the afternoon/evening over parts of Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Imo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa States.

NiMet advised the public to take adequate precautions, as strong winds might precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely.

“People with asthmatic conditions and other respiratory issues, especially in the northern parts of the country, are urged to take necessary precautions.

“Adhere to safety advisories issued by relevant authorities.

“Airline operators are advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports (flight documentation) from NiMet for effective planning in their operations.

“Residents are advised to stay informed through weather updates from NiMet.
