NLC/TUC Strike Records Partial Compliance In Kano
By Abdullahi Yusuf
The strike embarked upon by the Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC) and the Trade Union Congress(TUC) is recording partial compliance in Kano with some sectors participating and others shunning the industrial action.
Checks in parts of the capital city revealed that all government ministries and parastatals and government schools, including the Kano State Polytechnic, have complied with the strike order, as they remain under lock and key, this morning.
However, many private schools, especially those located in the Nasarawa area of the commercial city have opened for lessons, while others have closed their premises in compliance with the strike order.
Similarly, business premises, including Sallah Ram markets operating along Audu Bako way and Maiduguri road have opened for business with buyers and sellers transacting their normal businesses.
Most filling stations in the city have also opened for business,as motorists could be seen buying fuel for their vehicles.
A source at the state branch of the NLC who spoke to our Correspondent on condition of anonymity said the union has set up two committees – Public Sector Enforcement Committee and Private Sector Enforcement Committee to ensure the success of the strike in the state.
The source said the union was working assiduously to ensure the success of the industrial action in the state.
