No development without security — Sultan tells FG

The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has warned that Nigeria cannot achieve meaningful development without adequate security.

He called on the federal government to equip security agencies with modern technology and tools to combat the rising insecurity in the country.

The monarch made the call when he received the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, who paid him a courtesy visit at his palace in Sokoto.

“As a retired military officer, I feel it deep down in my heart, the security situation in our country is critical,” the Sultan said.

“No society can develop in an atmosphere of insecurity. No matter how wealthy people are, they cannot enjoy their riches if there is no adequate peace in their environment.”

He urged the government to prioritize the strengthening of security institutions across the country by providing modern gadgets and logistics support.

According to him, this will enhance their operational efficiency and ability to respond swiftly to threats.

“Our security outfits must ensure our nation is safe and secure at all times,” the Sultan stressed.

Earlier, NSCDC boss Dr. Audi explained that his visit to Sokoto was part of a nationwide tour to assess formations under his command, understand their challenges, and seek collaborative solutions.

“It is our tradition to visit the palace and seek parental blessings from His Eminence the Sultan before proceeding with our duties,” Audi said.

Dr. Audi praised the Sultan’s consistent support for security agencies and sought continued partnership in strengthening community engagement and conflict prevention efforts across Nigeria.
