North East Governors Forum Call for Sustained Onslaught Against Insurgency
From Sani Gazas Chinade, Damaturu
The North East Governors’ Forum, at the end of its 12th meeting held in Jalingo, Taraba State, expressed satisfaction with the progress made in the fight against insurgency in the sub-region and called for sustained efforts to consolidate the gains.
In a statement issued by Mamman Mohammed, Director-General Press and Media Affairs to Governor Mai Mala Buni, the communiqué was read by the Yobe State Governor, Dr. Mai Mala Buni, who chaired the meeting.
The Forum also raised concerns over the impact of climate change and the looming threat of floods in the region, urging the relocation of communities living in flood-prone areas to safer locations. It appealed to relevant agencies, including the North East Development Commission, to reconstruct roads and bridges destroyed by flooding.
The governors further decried the rising cost of farm inputs this cropping season and called for increased supply to support and subsidize irrigation farming.
To strengthen regional commerce, the Forum resolved to revive the North East Trade Fair, scheduled to hold in Maiduguri in December 2025. It also considered developing a master plan on solar energy to enhance power supply across the states.
The governors congratulated the University of Maiduguri on its 50th anniversary and pledged continued support to the institution.
