Novelty Match: Kano police team beats NUJ 2-0

Kano State Police Command team, the CP Boys, on Wednesday defeated the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) team 2-0 in a keenly contested peace novelty match.

The novelty football match was organized by the Kano Police Command in collarboration with Youth Society for the Prevention of Infectious Diseases and Social Vices (YOSPIS) to promote unity and peaceful co-existence in the state.

The match which was played at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, saw the police team scoring in each half of the entertaining encounter.

Kano Police team warded off all attempts by the pen boys to equalize as they held on to the two goals in order to win the game.

Speaking after the match, the Commissioner of Police, CP Usaini Gumel, said the determination of his team helped a lot in securing the maximum points at stake.

Gumel further said that his boys also won the match through commitment and hard work.

He added that the match was organized to promote peaceful coexistence in the state,describing sport as unifying factor and called on all stakeholders to cooperate with the police to secure the state.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the State Council of the NUJ, Comrade Abbas Ibrahim, said that his team played well, but lost the match gallantly.

Ibrahim said his boys played against a good side and commended them for their good fighting spirit.
