NPHCDA announces Gov Namadi best on health in North-west

From Mika’il Tsoho, Dutse

The National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA) has named Jigawa State Governor Malam Umar Namadi as the best performing governor on health in the North-west region of Nigeria.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by the agency’s Executive Director, Dr Faisal Shuaibu, during a courtesy visit to the governor at Government House in Dutse.

Dr Shuaibu explained that Governor Namadi’s performance on health supersedes all other governors in the zone, even though he is among the newly elected governors who assumed office for their first tenure.

He said that the state claimed the position through its use of certain indicators, including the domestication and implementation of federal government health programs, which have undoubtedly improved healthcare service delivery.

Other indicators include the provision of basic healthcare infrastructure, as Jigawa has achieved the target of one basic healthcare facility in each political ward across its 27 local governments.

The executive director added that the present administration in the state has also succeeded in reducing the maternal mortality rate from its initial stage through the improvement of routine immunization.

Dr Shuaibu pledged more support from the agency to the state government and urged other states to emulate Jigawa for better health services delivery.

In his remarks, Governor Namadi assured the agency of his continued collaboration for the improvement of health services delivery in Jigawa.

He said that while the state is suffering from inadequate human resources, his administration has already designed strategies to overcome the challenges.

According to him, the state government has introduced the J-health program, where all graduated health students from the state will be engaged as temporary workers for a duration of one year and later be observed as permanent workers based on their performance.

This is a welcome development for the people of Jigawa State, as it shows that the state government is committed to improving the health of its citizens.
