NSC Drums Support for Junior D’Tigress, as Team Settles in Czech Republic for FIBA U-19 Women’s World Cup

With the full support of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Nigeria’s U-19 women’s basketball team, Junior D’Tigress have arrived in Brno, Czech Republic to begin their campaign at the FIBA U-19 Women’s World Cup, scheduled to tip off this weekend.

Dr (mrs) Kehinde Ajayi, Director Press of the Commission disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen.

According to Ajayi Drawn into Group B, the team will open their tournament on Saturday, July 12, with a challenging fixture against China. The second group game follows on Sunday, July 13, against Canada, before wrapping up group play against Portugal on Tuesday, July 15.

In a statement, the Director General of the National Sports Commission, Hon. Bukola Olopade, encouraged the team ahead of their first game.

“This is more than just a tournament, it’s a statement of belief in the future of Nigerian sports. Our girls are carrying the hopes of a proud nation, and we believe in their ability to compete, inspire, and achieve greatness. The NSC stands fully behind them, and we will continue to support the team, as they fly the Nigerian flag high.”

Led by Head Coach Faustina Akhere Juliana, and supported by Assistant Coaches Nyingifa Atonye and Usuwa Chinedu Stone, the Junior D’Tigress are focused, fired up, and ready to represent Naija on the global stage.

16 nations will compete for honours at the FIBA U-19 Women’s World Cup, from July 12-20, in the 16th edition of the tourney taking place in the city of Brno, Czech Republic.
