NUJ Yobe State Council Inaugurates New Executive Officers

The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Yobe State Council has sworn in its newly elected executive officers to steer the affairs of the union for the next three years. The ceremony took place at the council’s secretariat along Gashu’a Road in Damaturu, the state capital.

Speaking at the occasion, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Ahmed Isa Abba, noted that all the executive positions were unopposed as only one set of candidates submitted nomination forms.

“Each of the candidates polled 230 votes from the members of the council,” Abba revealed. He also informed the gathering that the position of Financial Secretary remained vacant due to a lack of candidates. An election for this position will be conducted at a later date.

The six sworn-in executive officers are: Rajab Mohammed Ismail as Chairman, Usman Mohammed Nasoro as Vice Chairman, Alhassan Sule Mamudo as Secretary, Babayo Wakili as Assistant Secretary while Baba Shehu Mohammed as Treasurer and Murjanatu Hamisu Yelwa as Auditor

Abba commended the NUJ members for their maturity and peaceful conduct during the election process.

In his inaugural address, the newly elected NUJ Chairman, Rajab Mohammed Ismail, expressed gratitude to Governor Mai Mala Buni for his unwavering support for journalists in the state. He pledged that journalists would continue to report on the progress being made by the state government.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by a host of dignitaries, including the General Manager of the Yobe Broadcasting Corporation (YBC), Alhaji Musa Galadima; the General Manager of Yobe Television, Comrade Yusuf Isa and the former General Manager of the Yobe Printing Cooperation, Comrade Gambo Dahiru,

Others are the Commissioner of the Ministry of Information and Culture, Alhaji Abdullahi Bego, represented by his Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Modu; the Acting Director of Information in the Ministry of Information, Ali Musa Yawale; and the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Dungus Abdulkareem.
