Nutrition International Trains Health Workers, Motivators in Jigawa

A non-governmental Organization known as Nutrition International in partnership with FacE-PAM and SWODEN has trained 75 healthcare workers and 100 male motivators in Jigawa state.

Speaking during the training held in Kiyawa PHC, the project officer of FacE-PAM Alheri Gara Shiyya said, the 75 health workers were trained on maternal, infant, and Young Child Feeding Nutrition (MIYCN) as well as Gender responsive Behaviour Change Interventions.

According to her, the participants were selected from five local governments of Kiyawa, Buji, Taura, Gagarawa and Kafin Hausa areas of the state.

She explained that part of the objectives of the training is to reduce maternal mortality and morbidity through increased habits of ANC attendance and uptake of Iron Folid Acid by pregnant women.

The project officer added that the training also equipped health workers with skills on how to handle the ANC attendees and highlighted the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding to lactating mothers, children and the community at large.

While speaking on 100 Male Motivators training the project officer of the Society for Women Development and Empowerment of Nigerian (SWODEN) Lawan Bako Ahmad said the training took place at Jahun and Kiyawa centres on Tuesday and Wednesday.

He explained that the 100 Male motivators, comprised traditional leaders, Tea sellers, religious leaders and other community Organization leaders

Bako said the training aims to help the participants with strategies for Gender awareness and community sensitization for Behavior change interventions.

The project officer who said, two male motivators were identified from each ward of the five selected local governments, added that the training equipped them with knowledge on how to sensitise husbands on their roles and responsibilities on the BCI and Gender mainstreaming project.

While responding to our reporter, one of the participants as well as the traditional leader of Dogon Gida village Sale Gambo, promised to do their best to step down the sensitization to his people.

Another participant and a Tea seller  Malam Mohd Abdullahi from the Yayari-Cakauri village area of Buji local government commended the efforts of Nutritional International and promised to deliver the sensitization to his customers.
