His Excellency,
Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR
President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces,
Federal Republic of Nigeria,
State House, Abuja.
Your Excellency,
As a concerned citizen from Tudun Wada Local Government and a steadfast supporter of your administration’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, I am writing to express deep confusion and concern regarding the reported directive for the appointment of Hon. Murtala Sule Garo as the next Deputy Governor of Kano State.
It is quite disturbing that a sitting governor would be forced into appointing a deputy without being given an option, especially when that individual’s background and current legal status are in direct conflict with the anti-corruption stance of your administration.
The people of Kano are particularly perplexed by this development.
Just recently, the former Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, resigned following serious allegations of corruption, with the State House of Assembly giving him a few weeks to respond as part of an impeachment process.
It is, therefore, a shock to the public that you would allegedly direct the appointment of Hon. Murtala Sule Garo, whose corruption cases and legal entanglements are far more pronounced and severe.
The primary motivation behind the desperation to secure this appointment is clearly the evasion of criminal prosecution.
Hon. Garo is currently a central figure in multiple high-profile criminal litigations, including Case No. K/148c/24, which involves a four-count charge for the alleged diversion of N57.43 billion from the 44 Local Government areas of Kano State.
He is also facing the N2.8 Billion Fraud Suit regarding the embezzlement of local government stabilization and training funds, as well as allegations involving a N15 billion loan meant for free education that was reportedly used to purchase grains and palm oil.
Granting him the office of Deputy Governor would provide him with constitutional immunity, effectively stalling the quest for accountability for over N84.2 billion in alleged diversions.
Furthermore, Your Excellency, it is vital to understand the intricate web of familial and political ties that bind Hon. Murtala Sule Garo to the leaders of the opposition, raising serious questions about his true loyalties.
Hon. Garo is an in-law to your two most prominent political rivals; his biological sister is married to Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, the National Leader of the NNPP, while he himself is married to Hajia Walida, the biological daughter of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
Placing an individual so intimately connected to the heads of the opposition into the heart of our party’s administration—especially one with a history of sabotaging the Ganduje administration from within—risks placing a “Trojan Horse” at the highest level of state government.
Mr. President, your leadership is defined by the rule of law and political sagacity. We humbly urge you to reconsider this directive and review the independent security and anti-corruption reports on Hon. Murtala Sule Garo.
The people of Kano deserve a Deputy Governor whose hands are clean and whose loyalty to your administration and the APC is unencumbered by opposition ties or criminal indictments.
We trust in your wisdom to ensure that justice and the interests of the people of Kano State prevail.
Yours Faithfully,
Halilu Isa Faskar Ma’aji
Tudun Wada Local Government, Kano State.
