PAACA Sensitizes Jigawa Citizens on Electoral Reform

A non governmental Organization known as Peering Advocacy and Advancement Centre in Africa (PAACA) with support from MacArthur Foundation urged Nigerians to study electoral act thoroughly and give their contribution for electoral reformation.

The call was made by the Ezenwa Nwagwu, the executive director PAACA while delivering his remarks at a one day citizens town hall meeting on Electoral reform with Jigawa stakeholders held on Friday at Dutse the state capital.

He explained that, the purposes of organizing the meeting is to interact with stakeholders and encourage them to keep them fully aware on Electoral act so that to contribute their quota towards electoral reformation.

“The objectives of this meeting is to Foster inclusive dialogue among citizens from varied backgrounds concerning electoral reform and constitutional amendment. Enhancing public understanding and awareness regarding electoral reform and to compile and present citizen-drived recommendations to the national Assembly and INEC for consideration” the executive director said.

Some of the recommendation made by the participants include strengthening internal democracy, more voter education and faster punishment of electoral oppenders to serve as dettarance to others.

The participants also recommended extension of electoral petition deadline from 21 days to give chances for filing a comprehensive petitions as well as improving the election process for people with disabilities to participate in the election.

The executive director then, commended the participants for the recommendation and assured that PAACA as voice of the voiceless will do all their best to forward the recommendation to the relevant stakeholders for consideration.
