From Umar Dankano, Yola
The Adamawa state chapter of the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) has commence the sale of nomination form to fill in the vacant seat for state Assembly member of Ganye local government area in the state.
State Chairman of the party, Barrister Tahir Shehu made the disclosure at a press conference in Yola Friday stressing that the by-election would be conducted as a result of the demise of the former lawmaker, Hon.Abdulmalik jauro Musa who died on 24th May,2024.
Barrister Shehu announced that the Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC has slated August 16th 2025 for the by-election calling on interested members of the party to pick the form at the secretariat of the party after paying the stipulated amount.
While expressing confidence ion the PDP’s dominance in the state, Shehu emphasized, “Adamawa is a PDP state. From inception to now, the people have continuously trusted our leadership because of the party’s development track record.”
On the political razzmatazz bedeviling the party he described it as unfortunate and uncalled for acknowledging that the internal disagreements within the party are “normal political rancor,”.
“Ironically, these aggrieved individuals are the same people who have benefitted most from the PDP since 1998. But due to age and unwillingness to let younger generations rise, they feel sidelined,” he decried.
Shehu noted that their defection to another party with ongoing leadership disputes dating back to 2002 was ill-advised and amounted to “a voyage dead on arrival.”He labelled them as “Association of the aggrieved”.
When asked about the defection of a former vice president and whether it would impact the PDP’s chances in the by-election, Shehu replied, “The masses of Adamawa are with the PDP. This state has never been 100% controlled by any party. Temporary setbacks do not redefine our identity.”
