PDP Crisis:Gambo Bichi Endorses Abdulrahman Mohammed’s Leadership

By Abdullahi Yusuf

Engineer Bello Gambo Bichi,
member, Board of Trustees of the
People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed confidence in the emergence of Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed as Acting National Chairman of the party.

Bichi,in a statement signed by him, affirmed that Mohammed’s appointment was consistent with the provisions of the PDP Constitution.

He described Hon. Mohammed’s leadership as principled, lawful, and focused on restoring order and credibility in the party.

According to him, the 60-day mandate given to the caretaker committee led by Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed presents a “critical opportunity for reconciliation, constitutional compliance, and the repositioning of the PDP as a credible national alternative.”

“At this pivotal moment, Honourable Abdulrahman Mohammed’s leadership is not only constitutionally legitimate—it is the lifeline that can rescue the PDP’s soul, restore discipline and reaffirm the party’s founding ideals,” the PDP stalwart said.

He described the recent elective convention of the party held in Ibadan as a violation of the legal and constitutional principles upon which the PDP was founded.

He cited a ruling by the Federal High Court in Abuja, “which unequivocally stated that the PDP failed to comply with key legal instruments including the PDP Constitution, the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines.”

“The ruling highlighted the absence of validly conducted state congresses, improper issuance of statutory notices, and missing co-signatures from authorised party officers.

“In the light of these procedural breaches, the court restrained the PDP from holding the said convention and barred INEC from supervising or recognising its outcome until due process is followed,” he said.

Bichi emphasized that, given these facts, the Ibadan convention lacked “any moral, legal, or constitutional legitimacy to be recognised as a valid national convention of the PDP.”
