By Abdullahi Yusuf

The National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Northwest zone, Sen. Hayatu Gwarzo, says the party will make a good outing in the 2027 general elections.

Gwarzo stated this during the party’s delegates’ congress held in Kano on Saturday during which about 5,000 delegates cast their votes for various positions.

According to him, the congress was conducted according to the laws enshrined in the party’s constitution and as approved by its National Executive Committee (NEC).

“We are trying to creat a solid foundation that will revive the party in the state and across the nation.

“We want to ensure that all hands are on deck to guarantee our victory in the forthcoming elections and hope to deliver dividends of democracy to the people as it is evident in our past records,” he said.

The former lawmaker emphasized that the PDP remained a formidable force in the state, warning that anyone claiming a faction in the party did not belong to the party.

In the same vein, the Chairman of the electoral panel, Halilu Abubakar Mazagani, commended the party’s officials in the state “for a job well done.”

Mazagani said the smooth conduct of the congress was an indication that PDP would soon resolve the lingering differences between some members of the party so as to make the PDP “a better and stronger opposition that can defeat the ruling party.”

” Our party being the largest in Africa, no doubt faces some internal challenges, but as always, we have learnt to manage our differences.

“I can assure you today that we are working hard to ensure unity and we are mobilizing like never before, to ensure our success in the forthcoming 2027 general elections which I can confidently say the people will vote for us.

“So, it is now left for us to present credible candidates to Nigerians like we did before and we wish to improve on that,” he added.

Also speaking at the event, former Governor of Kano State and elder of the party in the state,Sen.Ibrahim Shekarau, said the PDP would produce a wining team in the 2027 general elections.

Represented by Dr Umar Musa Mustapha, Shekarau said the PDP is poised to challenge any party in any election in the country, including the Local Government elections in Kano State scheduled to hold on October 26.

Thirty nine positions were contested for during the congress, while four offices which include office of the chairman, Organizing Secretary, Ex-officio Kano south (male) and Ex-officio Kano south (female) were vied for.
