PLASIEC reviews LGAs election timetable

From Tongnaan Bawa, Jos

The Chairman Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC), Plangji Cishak, has disclosed that adjustment would be made on the date of local government elections in the state.

Cishak made this known Thursday at the commission’s headquarters in Jos while briefing journalists on the new development.

He said 7 political parties have indicated interest to participate in the upcoming local government councils elections in the state.

Cishak explained that the shift had become necessary due to the nationwide #Endbadgovernance protest that prevented political parties from conducting their primaries according to the scheduled timetable, adding that the commission is fully ready to conduct councils elections come 9th October, 2024.

“The latest events have made it necessary for us to adjust activities in the build-up to the elections. This is to ensure that political parties that have earlier scheduled their primaries and have notified the commission within the period of protest and curfew in the Jos-Bukuru metropolis are not disenfranchised,” Cishak stated.

He further said PLASIEC announces today the rescheduling of some upcoming activities for the local government elections as earlier released.

According to the chairman, “these adjustments ensure that the election process continues smoothly while maintaining the integrity and fairness of the Electoral system.

“PLASIEC remains fully committed to ensuring that all political parties can participate in the elections without any disadvantage.

“We want reassure the public and all stakeholders that the rescheduling will not affect fairness or transparency of the election process. Our focus is on providing a level playing field and equitable opportunity for all parties involved”, Cishak pledged.

The PLASIEC appreciates continues support and collaboration of Inter party Advisory Council (IPAC), Civil Society Organizations, other stakeholders as well as aspirants and electorates.
