Plateau ALGON Endorses Gov. Mutfwang for Re-election amidst Historic Peer Review Tour
From Tongnaan Bawa, Jos
The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Plateau State chapter, has publicly endorsed Governor Caleb Mutfwang for re-election in 2027 following a groundbreaking peer review tour of the state’s 17 Local Government Councils (LGCs).
The review, led by ALGON Chairman, Hon. Hamisu Anani, aimed to assess the state of governance, review the execution of local projects, and foster unity amongst the councils.
The peer review tour one of the first of its kind in the history of Plateau State provided an opportunity for local government chairmen to interact directly with the grassroots, meet with constituents, and inspect major developmental projects, including road construction, police stations, hospitals, youth centers, and other vital infrastructure projects.
The peer review was more than just a formal assessment; it was a chance to gauge the execution of governance at the grassroots level.
The tour allowed the ALGON executives to visit several ongoing and completed projects across the local councils, including the Snakebite Treatment Hospital in Zamko, Youth Centers, Staff Quarters, and new Local Government Secretariat buildings. In addition to health and infrastructure projects, the tour focused on schools, markets, and renovations of traditional palaces.
Hon. Anani, while speaking at the close of the tour, described the exercise as historic, stating, “This review has not only allowed us to assess projects but also to engage with the people directly and understand the impact of these developments.
The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and it’s clear that the people appreciate the progress under Governor Mutfwang’s leadership.”
The review was also a platform for addressing critical challenges, particularly security concerns that affect several local government areas. The ALGON team, in collaboration with local security stakeholders, has committed to implementing monthly meetings to tackle insecurity, which remains a pressing issue in parts of the state.
Hon. Anani stressed the importance of addressing these challenges while highlighting the necessity of strengthening grassroots governance to ensure the people are not only beneficiaries of development but active participants in shaping their futures.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s leadership was consistently praised throughout the tour, with ALGON executives and local government chairmen emphasizing the governor’s “open-handed” approach to governance.
Anani was keen to point out that no local government had to borrow money to fund its development projects under Mutfwang’s administration. Instead, outstanding debts were cleared, and funds were utilized judiciously to execute projects that have positively impacted local communities.
“The people of Plateau are happy with the level of development taking place under this administration, and they are already calling on His Excellency to continue beyond 2027,” Anani affirmed.
This strong endorsement reflects the commitment of the ALGON Plateau chapter to not only continuing the work of the current administration but also ensuring that future projects align with the needs and aspirations of the people.
As the peer review concluded, ALGON reaffirmed its dedication to fostering unity across Plateau State. Local governments, having undergone this collaborative and transparent review process, are now better positioned to deliver on their promises and meet the needs of their communities.
The endorsement of Governor Mutfwang for a second term in office represents a united front within the state, and with continued focus on development and peace, the ALGON chapter aims to ensure that Plateau’s growth trajectory remains on course.
With projects that span sectors from healthcare to infrastructure, education, and security, the ALGON-led peer review tour has proven instrumental in showcasing the significant progress Plateau has made, and the promise of even greater accomplishments in the years to come.
The tour, which began in Qua’an-Pan, Shendam, Mikang, Langtang South, and Langtang North, took the ALGON delegation through each LGC, allowing local government chairmen to showcase the impact of their respective projects. The review highlighted several key initiatives that reflect the state’s commitment to grassroots development.
The peer review tour offered ALGON executives a firsthand look at developmental progress across Plateau’s diverse communities.
Hon. Anani led the delegation through several local government areas, including Wase, Kanam, Kanke, Pankshin, Mangu, and Bokkos, before making their way to Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Jos South, Jos North, Bassa, and finally concluding in Jos East.
Each local government showcased ongoing projects such as road constructions, police stations, healthcare facilities, and youth centers. Notably, the review covered high-impact infrastructure developments like the Snakebite Treatment Hospital, new Local Government Secretariat buildings, and ongoing school and market constructions
The tour, our correspondent disclosed was not only about inspecting physical projects but also about fostering unity and assessing the relationship between the local government executives, legislative bodies, traditional Rulers and the people they serve.
Hon. Anani emphasized the collaborative spirit of the peer review, stating, “This tour gave us the opportunity to not only assess projects but also to bring local government executives together, share best practices, and address the challenges we face collectively.
