Plateau State Government has recorded a historic boost in its Internally Generated Revenue, hitting over N45 billion in 2025 for the first time.
The Executive Chairman of the Plateau State Internal Revenue Service, Dr. Jim Wayas Pam, disclosed this in Jos while reviewing the agency’s performance from 2022 to 2025.
Dr. Pam said the service achieved 94 per cent of its revenue target in 2025, the highest since its establishment, attributing the success to fiscal reforms and improved collection processes.
He noted that revenue performance among Ministries, Departments and Agencies declined from 100 per cent in 2023 to 70 per cent in 2025, but explained that reforms such as full automation and elimination of cash payments have helped reduce leakages.
Looking ahead, Dr. Pam announced a new ₦65 billion revenue target for 2026, stressing that the focus would be on expanding the tax base, not increasing taxes for compliant citizens.
He identified challenges in the mining sector and multiple taxation, adding that new laws and agreements with local governments are being implemented to harmonise tax collection.
Dr. Pam assured taxpayers that the service remains non-punitive, promoting voluntary compliance and alternative dispute resolution, while maintaining enforcement against defaulters.
He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to transparent, efficient and taxpayer-friendly policies to drive sustainable economic growth.
