Plateau State Govt Commends NUJ for fostering unity through Ramadan lecture

Plateau state Commissioner for Information and Communication Musa Ashoms has commended the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Plateau state council for re-uniting Muslims and Christians in the State through a Ramadan lecture.

The Commissioner made the commendation at the maiden Ramadan lecture, titled “Beyond the Holy Month” organized by the NUJ in the state at its Secretariat in Jos, on Saturday.

He said the Plateau State government is pleased with the initiatives of the NUJ towards uniting citizens across religious beliefs.

Musa who was also the Chairman of the Ramadan lecture described the laudable effort made by members of the forth estate of the realm commendable, and urged for more of such engagements.

In his presentation, the guest speaker who is also the deputy Imam, Fibre Mosque Jos, Sheik Omar Farouq Mohammad, noted that Islam believes in humanity and unity of all being irrespective of faith beliefs.

Speaking on the spirituality essence of Ramadan fast to Muslims,which he refered as an obligatory, the Imam explained that fasting creates cleansing spiritually, physically and also has health benefits.

Sheik Muhammad encouraged citizens to read the holy books as a means to strengthened their faith.

According to the islamic cleric the Qu’ran recognizes Jesus Christ right from birth, maintaining that the account shows that both faith have many vital spiritual beliefs in common.

The guest speaker however called on Muslims and Christians to fast periodically for spiritual growth.

Earlier in a welcome address, Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Plateau council Ayuku Pwaspo, disclosed that the gesture was to reunite Muslims and Christians to embrace one another irrespective religious difference.

She emphasized that “The lecture is a modest contribution of the entire NUJ members in promoting peaceful coexistence and Unity of purpose in society”

While saying that the lecture is aimed at encouraging citizens to practice better habit beyond the Ramadan season, she appreciated all those who made the event a reality.

Patron of the NUJ Plateau State council, who is also the Emir of Wase Alhaji Dr Muhammad Sambo Haruna, expressed gladness with the initiative said such will go a long way in uniting citizens in the state for more peaceful coexistence.

Represented by one of his senior Council member Adamu Abdullahi, the patron challenged the rich in the society to assist the down trodden who are painfully affected by the increasing economic hardship in Nigeria.
