Plateau State Govt spends N50M Dental School Accreditation

Plateau State Government have released the sum of fifty million naira (50,000,000) for the accreditation of dental programs at the College of Health Science and the University of Jos.

This was disclosed by the commissioner of health Dr. Cletus Shurkuk, at the continuation of the 2024 ministerial press briefing organized by the Ministry of Information and Communication held conference hall of the ministry of Education, Joseph Gomwalk State Secretariat Jos.

Dr. Shurkuk while reeling out the ministry’s achievements, said
agencies under the health facility had recorded successes in one way or the order for the betterment of State especially in the areas of staff welfare, infrastructure, capacity building and systems strengthening.

He said the administration at inception paid three months arrears of salaries of medical and health workers, and disclosed also it facilitated the release of promotions for those due, the establishment of the national orthopedic hospital in Jos, and Federal Medical Center, Wase.

The Commissioner further highlighted the ministry’s innovative strategy for effective health services delivery, hence the coming on board of the Plateau State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System.

He added that the ministry had received several oxygen equipment as  support from the Federal Medical Health and Clinton Health Access Initiative.

Speaking also at the score card presentation was the commissioner of Water Resources, Noel Nkup, who said that the mandate of his ministry was to ensure sustainable management of water resources in all the seventeen local government areas.

According to him, to effectively achieve these, the ministry collaborates with parastatals, agencies and partners for a desirable project implementation for the state.

On the part of the commissioner of Environment, Climate Change and Rural Development, Peter Gwom, said the ministry has ensured the cleanliness and sanitation of the environment as at when due.

He said others were the management of waste disposal and recycling programs, adding that the ministry had procured hundreds of mowing machines, and had also engaged and deployed a new batch of forest guards, amongst others.

The commissioner of Tourism, Culture and Hospitality, Jamila Tukur, who was represented by the General Manager of Tourism, Chuwang  Pwajok said that tourism had been a focal point for the current administration, recognized its potential to drive revenue and employment for the state.

Speaking also was the commissioner of Science and Technology,  Goselle Nanjul, who explained that the ministry in conjunction with the people and government of Japan proposed to establish the Plateau State hybrid fuel fusion plant.

He said when successfully achieved it can effectively supply safe, clean and nearly limitless power, convert energy release from fusion reaction into electricity to power the homes of the plateau citizens.

Also on his part, the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice of Barr. Philemon Daffi, said the Ministry of Justice had the mandate to provide justice for all citizens of the state through a speedy, effective, efficient, accessible and affordable justice delivery system.

He explained that the ministry under the present administration has effected various reforms and gazetting of the Plateau State law reform,  commission law, exercise of the right of pardon on prerogative of mercy, among others.

Daffi also disclosed that the ministry sponsored some officials of the ministry for a study tour to Lagos State to understudy the workings and operations of the ministry of Justice, lands bureau and office of the Surveyor General.

Our correspondent recalled that the briefing commenced last month with the purpose of  keeping the people of Plateau abreast with present administration’s activities.

Commissioner of Information and Communication, Musa Ashoms had earlier appreciated the Governor for his approval of the briefing and thanked the MDAs for their swift response to present their score cards to the people of Plateau State.
