Plateau State Residents Urged to Embrace Culture of Peace

Citizens of Plateau State have been called upon to cultivate a culture of peace in all aspects of life, as the world marks the 2024 International Day of Peace.
The United Nations Women organization and Norwegian embassy as well as German cooperation brought together stakeholders for a peace walk in Jos, with the theme “Cultivating a Culture of Peace”.
Speaking during the peace walk Leaders of various groups Dara Gyang Dudu, Nene Dung, and Grace Gora emphasized on the importance of genuine peace, stressing its connection to economic development and stability.
According to Dara Gyang Duru, representative of HeforShe who said Cultivating the culture of peace is something you do deliberately. It’s not lip service.”
On her part, Nene Dung, Plateau State Chairperson of NAWOJ, said Without peace, no meaningful development can be achieved.
Grace Gora, State Chairperson of Standup for Women Society, SWS, and leader of Women Peace Mediators called on all citizens, saying “Let’s join hands to work for peace and ensure it reigns.”
Our correspondent reports that the International peace day was Established by the UN General Assembly in 1981, and the International Day of Peace is observed annually on September 21.
They all encouraged Residents of Plateau to promote harmony, understanding, and peace in their communities.
The peace walk which started from the popular Secretariat junction, under the bridge terminated at the Nigeria Union of Journalists press center at Hill station junction jos, amidst music to entertain them all to ease out stress.
The various groups were, women Peace security media network, Women Mediators under CLEEN Foundation, HeforShe, Plateau Peace Building, Women Christian Association of Nigeria, FOMWAN, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, NUJ , JNI amongst others.
