Plot to Smear Emir Sanusi with AI-Generated Video Uncovered
…Perpetrators planned release before Eid to stir unrest
Security operatives and digital forensic experts have uncovered an elaborate plot to smear the revered Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, through the circulation of a doctored, AI-generated video that falsely portrays him making disparaging remarks against both the Federal and Kano State governments.
The video, which was scheduled for release shortly before the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, allegedly features a highly realistic synthetic rendering of the Emir in traditional attire, appearing to criticize recent government policies and incite public disaffection. Experts have confirmed that the video was produced using deepfake technology—a sophisticated form of artificial intelligence capable of creating hyper-realistic fabrications.
According to preliminary investigations, the orchestrators of the plot sought to sow discord and diminish the Emir’s public standing at a time when his leadership has been hailed for its moral clarity, reformist stance, and commitment to peace in Kano and beyond.
Sources close to the investigation reveal that the digital footprint of the video points to a coordinated effort involving elements outside the state, with indications of political motivations. Authorities have begun trailing key suspects believed to be connected to a larger network intent on destabilising the emirate and discrediting traditional institutions.
Sources at the Kano Emirate Council has condemned the malicious act, urging the public to be vigilant against fake news and digital manipulation. “His Highness, the Emir, remains committed to the unity, dignity, and progress of Kano and the nation. No fabricated video can undermine the values he represents,” he said.
