Police Arrest 3 Shila Boys Gang Members for Alleged Armed Robbery in Adamawa
From Umar Dankano, Yola
In its ongoing fight against Shila gangsterism, the Adamawa State Police Command has arrested three members of a five-man syndicate suspected of terrorizing residents in the state capital, Yola, using tricycles popularly known as Keke Napep.
According to a press release issued on Sunday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Suleiman Nguroje, the arrests followed credible information that the gang was attacking and robbing individuals heading to church for Sunday services along Bishop Street in the Jimeta-Yola metropolitan area.
Nguroje explained that, based on the information received, police operatives were swiftly mobilized to the scene where they confronted the suspects. Three members of the gang were arrested, while two others managed to escape.
“In the early hours of December 29, 2024, operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command responded promptly to a report that five Shila boys were attacking and robbing people on their way to church for early morning prayers and other activities along Bishop Street in Yola North Local Government,” Nguroje said.
The suspects reportedly attacked the officers with machetes and knives in an attempt to resist arrest. In response, the police used minimal force to neutralize the threat. Three of the suspects were apprehended, while two others fled the scene.
Recovered items include machetes, knives, ATM cards, mobile phones, and a tricycle, which will be processed as evidence. The injured suspects are currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital and are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
Nguroje assured the public that more details would be released as the investigation progresses and urged citizens to report any suspicious activities to security agencies for swift action.
