Police Arrest 6 Suspected Kidnappers In Akwa Ibom

The police command in Akwa Ibom State has arrested six suspected kidnappers as part of its efforts to rid the state of criminals.

A statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer(PPRO), DSP Timfon John, said the arrest followed credible information regarding a planned kidnapping targeting key personnel within Eket.

John said a coordinated operation led to the apprehension of the six suspected kidnappers.

“Acting on the information, Operatives of the Command mobilized assets, resulting in the arrest of one Joseph Alafia, a male, in Oron Town on May 6, 2025,” he said.

He said the initial arrest further led to raids on two locations in Afia Nsit Eket,adding that the operations were jointly conducted by the command’s operatives.

The PPRO gave the names of the suspects as Oyibo Ayibakumo Brown, a male from Bayelsa State, Wisdom Harry, a male from Rivers State
and Afanye Igonikon, a male, also from Rivers State.

Others are:Dare Olaniyi, a male from Ogun State, residing at Enugu Waterside, Port Harcourt, Rivers State,and Tita Mercy Masume, a female from the Republic of Cameroon

During the operations, he said, a Lexus RX 300 vehicle with identification plate number KMR 491 AE, gray and ash in color, suspected to be used for kidnapping activities, along with five mobile phones were recovered.

John further stated that the suspects are believed to be connected to recent kidnapping incidents within Eket and are currently undergoing intensive interrogation.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare fsi, has commended the vigilance and swift action of the Police Officers for a successful Operation.

“The Command reiterates its commitment to maintaining Law and Order and ensuring the safety and security of all residents of Akwa Ibom State,”the statement added.
