Police arrest impersonating Mopol Officer in Jigawa

The Jigawa State Police have apprehended a 25-year-old man, identified as Usman Khalil, for allegedly impersonating a mobile police officer.

The Jigawa State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the arrest through an official statement issued on Wednesday.

According to DSP Adam, the accused individual had been masquerading as a member of the mobile police force attached to the 35PMF Dutse in Jigawa State.

Investigations revealed that prior to his arrest, the imposter visited a shop belonging to Aliyu Bako, situated in the mechanic village. Wearing a police uniform and carrying a firearm, he acquired various food commodities on credit, assuring the shop owner that he would promptly settle the debt once his salary account was set up.

However, the fake officer failed to honor his promise, leaving Bako with no choice but to report the matter to the local authorities.

Promptly acting upon the complaint, the police swiftly apprehended the suspect on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at approximately 4:40 p.m.

DSP Shiisu stated that the suspect, along with the seized items, was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Jigawa for a discreet investigation.
