Police arrest kidnapper of seven UNIJOS students

Plateau State Commissioner of Police, CP Okoro Julius Alawari, has arrested and paraded a suspect who had kidnapped seven University of Jos students on June 12th, 2023.

Salisu Adamu of Minta village in Bassa local government area of Plateau was paraded on Monday as being responsible for the kidnap of the students at the Police Headquarters in Jos.

Alawari further disclosed that further investigation conducted by the Commander, Anti–Kidnapping Unit revealed that the suspect is an escapee from the recent Jos prison jail of 2020. The students have been freed.

He said that the suspect confessed to the crime and mentioned some of his gang members who are currently on the run, pointing out that efforts were being intensified to arrest the fleeing suspects.

The Police boss also averred that a report was received at the Anglo–Jo Police Station that one Fredrick Chairman of the Zarmaganda area of Jos South had a misunderstanding with his friend, Ajang Julius where the suspect stabbed him in the chest with a knife.

According to him, “The DPO Anglo–Jos Division, SP Bethel Obara immediately led a team of Policemen and arrested the suspect. The victim was immediately rushed to the Plateau Specialist Hospital for medical attention where he was later confirmed dead by the medical doctor.”

Alawari further disclosed that the police received a report at the Jengre Police Division on August 9th, 2023 that one Jummai Emmanuel of the Miango area of Bassa local government chartered a driver, Safiyanu Sulaiman to convey her goods from Saminaka market in Kaduna State to Jos.

“That while they were travelling along Fuska Mata Forest, the driver pretended that the car developed a mechanical fault, but when he noticed that the passenger was calling another driver, he violently hit the victim with a log of wood on the head and she died on the spot,” he further reposited.

The police boss paraded to the journalists yesterday 28 suspects with various offences.

There were arrests of notorious wanted criminals, recovery of a locally fabricated revolver pistol and illicit drugs with culpable homicide, vandalisation of Jos Electricity Distribution (JED) property, theft of armoured cables and defilement of four – year four-year-old girl and one eight year girl who were playing in the house of a neighbour, mentioning that one John Mahana, aged 63 years, deceived them where he had unlawful carnal knowledge of the girls.

Criminal conspiracy, rape and unlawful possession of firearms were also mentioned and paraded while one Fredrick Embrakumor attached to 3 Division Garrison of the Nigeria Army, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment Jos on operation at Maiduguri, Borno State for conspiracy and extortion of unsuspecting members of the public was also mentioned by the Police boss.

Twenty-eight suspects were paraded yesterday by the Commissioner of Police.
