Police Deny Armed Robbery Attack on Adamawa Governor’s Convoy
From Umar Dankano, Yola
The Adamawa State Police Command has refuted social media rumors that Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s convoy was attacked by armed robbers.
In a press statement issued Thursday in Yola, the Command’s spokesperson SP Suleiman Nguroje described the reports as “misleading and lacking accurate reporting.”
The statement clarified the incident: “On December 19, 2024, the advance security vehicle of the Governor’s convoy, returning from Taraba State, encountered a roadblock set up by suspected local robbers.
“As per standard operating procedure for VIP movements, the advance vehicle was ahead of the main convoy. Upon arrival, the security team found that the roadblock had stopped traffic, with vehicles backed up along the road.
“The officers in the advance vehicle responded by pursuing the armed robbers and clearing the road, ensuring the safe passage of all motorists.”
Commissioner of Police Dankombo Morris commended the officers for their proactive response and urged social media users to verify information before publishing it.
The Command also thanked journalists for their contributions to public awareness and peacebuilding.
The statement addressed a recent social media post captioned “Mechanical fault saves Governor’s convoy from armed robbers,” which generated public confusion and tension.
