Power-hungry desperados – Onanuga mocks ADC coalition members
Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga has lashed out at members of the new opposition coalition formed under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing them as power-hungry desperados with no real plan for Nigeria.
In a post shared Thursday on X, Onanuga, who serves as President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, downplayed the significance of the coalition.
He said that many of its key figures had long abandoned the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and do not deserve the attention being given to their alliance.
“Some members of the hijacked ADC, who were reported as members of the APC, left the APC years and months ago,” he said.
“Let the public not be deceived by the opposition’s narrative about their relevance or whether the APC will mourn their departure.”
Onanuga specifically mentioned former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; “Amaechi’s soul left the APC in 2022 after losing the presidential primary to President Tinubu.”
He also pointed fingers at former Attorney-General, Abubakar Malami, whom he said has remained distant from the party since President Tinubu took over and after his failed bid to become Kebbi governor.
“Malami has never hidden his estrangement from the APC,” he said.
He accused former Aviation Minister, Hadi Sirika, now linked with the ADC, of being embroiled in criminal trials for contract splitting and other allegations.
Onanuga didn’t spare former Osun governor Rauf Aregbesola either, noting that, “The renegade Aregbesola committed anti-party activities in the last Osun election and was expelled as an unfit APC member.”
He also described Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, a former APC chairman, and Kashim Imam as disgruntled politicians “posturing as would-be saviours of Nigeria.”
“Imam left the APC after failing to secure the vice-presidential ticket in 2022. Oyegun lost interest in the party and has been a foundation member of this coalition from day one,” he added.
Onanuga said Nigerians must not be misled by the formation of the new coalition, which includes former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Senate President David Mark.
Onanuga cautioned Nigerians to remain vigilant, arguing that any political party lacking a clear agenda or ideology and driven solely by opposition to President Tinubu poses a danger to national progress and could drag the country backwards by decades.
“These politicians are desperados, hungry for power, not for the benefit of Nigerians but for themselves. They want power at all costs because they cannot endure another four years in the political wilderness or be banished to political winter and irrelevance.”
“What is certain is that the group will soon unravel due to their irreconcilable personal ambitions,” he concluded.
