No fewer than 230 women gathered for a two-day workshop on ‘Mindset Empowerment and Positive Intelligence for Women in the Home, Workplace & Business’, jointly organised by the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA) and the Association of Professional Mentors and Coaches Nigeria.

Speaking at the event on Wednesday, 18th September 2024, at the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College, Gwagwalada, Abuja, Mrs Kikelomo Adewale Adeniyi, National President of COWA and wife of the Comptroller-General of Customs, declared the workshop open—and described the event as “a crucial tool for shaping the intelligence of women.”

Mrs Adeniyi, however, took a moment to thank her executive members, expressing her deep appreciation for their dedication to COWA’s aims and objectives—adding that “My heartfelt gratitude goes to my national executives, who have worked tirelessly to ensure the success of our activities.”

She explained that the value of capacity building states that, “Investing in capacity building is investing in a productive future for women—and empowering women is equivalent to empowering a nation.”

She noted, “These participants were set to receive training on various skills, such as effective communication, public speaking, and positive intelligence. These skills will not only help you in your personal lives but will empower you in your careers and businesses.”

In her address, Mrs Adeniyi stressed the far-reaching impact of empowering women as part of the Association’s goals, saying, “Empowering women is empowering the nation.”

She also took the opportunity to thank the Comptroller-General of Customs and his team for their support in making the event possible, emphasising that, “We are grateful for the platform they’ve given us to hold this important gathering.”

Throughout the workshop, President Kikelomo stayed at the venue to encourage participants to be fully engaged and take advantage of the knowledge being shared, adding that “I urge you all to pay close attention and make the most of this opportunity. Embrace the insights from our facilitators with an open heart.”

Mrs Adeniyi emphasised that COWA’s leadership is committed to fostering growth and development among its members, adding, “We want COWA members to be growth-oriented because these are the tools that will help us achieve our goals and reach our full potential.”

She remarked. “This capacity building on mindset empowerment and positive intelligence was put together to have a lasting, positive impact on all of us.”

She was clearly pleased with the event turnout, remarking, “I’m confident everyone has taken something valuable home today. We’ll come back in a short while to examine how they’ve applied what they’ve learned here.”

Dr Rotimi Mathew, Director-General of the Association of Professional Mentors and Coaches Nigeria, while addressing the participants, commended COWA’s leadership under Mrs Adeniyi for collaborating with his organisation to bring this much-needed training to their members.

He, however, shared insights from his presentation, which covered topics like mental health, work-life balance, and financial literacy, amongst others.

He said “We talked about how the participants can manage their mental well-being, partner with their spouses during retirement, and grow their businesses. We also discussed financial literacy and how they can be strong supporters to their spouses.”

At the end of the workshop, Mrs Kikelomo Adeniyi was honoured with a Fellowship from the Chartered Institute of Mentoring and Coaching, while Mrs Funsho Olomu was inducted as Fellow and other COWA executives who were also honoured as members.
