Professional training for cadets to be top priority, says General Ochai

Major General John Ochai, the newly appointed 32nd Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), has expressed his commitment to prioritize professional training for cadets during his tenure.

Taking over from Major General Ibrahim Manu Yusuf, who retired after 33 years of meritorious service, General Ochai aims to enhance the academy’s training programs.

During the Handing and Taking Over ceremony at the NDA Headquarters, Major General Ibrahim Manu Yusuf thanked the entire NDA community for their support during his tenure and urged them to extend the same cooperation to his successor, Major General John Ochai.

He commended General Ochai as a highly decorated officer and the right person for the job.

Major General John Ochai, in his address at the event, expressed his gratitude for the appointment and acknowledged the privilege to serve as the Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy.

He emphasized his primary responsibility towards the development of cadets and staff. General Ochai praised his predecessor, Major General Ibrahim Manu Yusuf, describing him as a great man and a successful military officer.

Recognizing the challenges of filling the shoes of his predecessor, General Ochai assured attendees that he had been adequately prepared through mentorship and training provided by Major General Yusuf.

He expressed his readiness to learn and improve, acknowledging that every appointment presents an opportunity for growth.

The new Commandant also took the opportunity to congratulate Major General Ibrahim Manu Yusuf on his retirement, thanking him for his remarkable service to the Nigerian Armed Forces and the nation. He extended his best wishes to the outgone Commandant for his future endeavors.

Major General John Ochai, a decorated officer of the Nigerian Army Armoured Corps, is a member of the 39 Regular Course. His previous appointments include Director of Operations at Army Headquarters and Commandant of the Nigerian Army Armoured School in Bauchi, among others. With his wealth of experience and expertise, General Ochai brings valuable insights to his new role as Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy.

The Handing and Taking Over ceremony featured significant activities, including the signing of the Handing and Taking Over Notes, decoration of the new Commandant with NDA Insignia, lowering and hoisting of the flag, and the inspection of the Quarter Guard.
