Ramadan: Maryam Abacha Urges Government To Provide Food Assistance To The Less Privileged
Hajia (Dr) Maryam Abacha, the wife of the late former president of Nigeria, Sani Abacha, has called on governors and other affluent individuals in the country to purchase food items to support the needy, especially during these trying times as the month of Ramadan approaches.
Hajia Maryam made this statement to journalists in Abuja during the commemoration of the first anniversary of her son Abdullahi’s death.
She noted that many people are currently in dire need of help and called on governors to utilize the additional funds provided by the Federal Government to serve their constituents.
“I urge the government and the general populace to assist the needy. Many people are facing financial difficulties, and although food is available in the market, it is often too expensive for them to afford,” she said.
She further emphasized, “I implore the wealthy and the government to extend their support. I understand that the President has allocated significant funds to the governors, which is commendable. It’s crucial that these funds are used appropriately, particularly to purchase food items for distribution to vulnerable individuals within the community.”
“Those who are able should lend a helping hand. This principle is inherent in both Islam and Christianity. If we practice these teachings, everyone will benefit.”
She concluded by praying to Almighty Allah for ease and well-being for the people of the North, Nigeria, and the world at large, expressing her hope to reach the month of Ramadan in good health.
