Reps Summon Rivers Sole Administrator Over State of Emergency
The House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State Oversight has summoned the state’s Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), for an interactive session scheduled for Thursday, April 17, 2025.
This was disclosed in a statement issued Wednesday by the House Spokesman, Akin Rotimi Jnr.
The 21-member committee, chaired by House Leader Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, was inaugurated on Tuesday by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen. It was constituted following the National Assembly’s resolution approving the Presidential Proclamation of a State of Emergency in Rivers State.
According to Rotimi, the decision to invite the Sole Administrator was taken during the committee’s inaugural meeting on Wednesday.
“In line with its constitutional mandate under Section 11(4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the committee resolved to invite Vice Admiral Ibas for a comprehensive session to assess the situation in Rivers State,” the statement read.
Prof. Ihonvbere emphasized the importance of the engagement, stating, “This session is necessary to ascertain the true state of affairs in Rivers State and to guide the House in fulfilling its oversight responsibilities in the public interest.”
The meeting is set to hold at 4:00 PM in Room 414 of the House of Representatives New Building, National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
Rotimi added that a formal letter of invitation has been sent and acknowledged, and that the public announcement underscores the committee’s commitment to transparency and constitutional responsibility.
