Rivers’ Slide into Anarchy: Peterside Calls on Tinubu for Urgent Intervention

Dr. Dakuku Peterside, a prominent figure in Rivers State politics, has accused certain actors of plunging the state into “a shameful state of anomie,” characterized by anti-democratic actions and disregard for public well-being.

Peterside’s ire was sparked by the recent defection of 27 state assembly members and the controversial demolition of the Assembly complex for “renovation.” These acts, he claims, are nothing short of a “mockery of democracy” and a “mindless destruction” orchestrated by those who should be its guardians.

He laments the sacrifice of peace, stability, and development on the altar of “selfish political agenda, ego, and narrow interests.” The people, he insists, have been relegated to mere spectators as political jobbers hold the state hostage.

Drawing on Rivers’ rich history of patriotic leadership, Peterside urges residents to resist this “brigandage” and defend their state. Posterity, he warns, will judge them for their actions.

His most ardent plea, however, is directed towards President Tinubu. “Mr. President,” he implores, “save Rivers from going up in flames.” He paints a grim picture of the state “gradually sliding into total anarchy,” a scenario no leader can afford to ignore.

In a stark reminder of his own commitment to Rivers, Peterside urges Tinubu to prioritize the state’s well-being above all else. He advocates for “politics of good governance and inclusive development,” a stark contrast to the current climate of destruction and personality cults.

Dr. Peterside’s powerful statement throws down the gauntlet, demanding immediate action to restore order and protect democratic values in Rivers State. Whether his plea will be heeded remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: the future of Rivers hangs in the balance.
