Rumfa College basketball team and Ahmadiyya College have emerged winners of this year’s Kano state final of Nestle Milo Inter-Secondary basketball championship.
The state final which attracted over 110 secondary schools in attendance took place at the Indoor Sports Hall of Sani Abacha Sports Complex, Kofar Mata, Kano.
Both teams would now represent the state to compete among twelve states in the zonal Savannah Conference to determine the winners for the national final stage of the tournament in Lagos.
The 36 state and Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja secondary schools are to expected to compete in four Conferences in Kano, Asaba in Delta state. Ibadan, Oyo state and the FCT, Abuja, while the final stage of the championship will take place in Lagos.
Rumfa College basketball team defeated it’s Ahmadiyya counterpart 36-8 points (5-4, 10-0, 10-0, and 11-8) in the boys category while Ahmadiyya College whitewash Army Day Secondary school, Bukavu 39-10 points (7-2, 6-4, 7-4 and 19-0) in an interesting encounter in the girls category.
Speaking shortly after the finals, the coach of Rumfa, Umar Muhammad Bala Gandu and his counterpart from Ahmadiyya, Abubakar Rabilu Ammani have applauded the performance of their players, urging them to sustain the tempo especially during the forthcoming Savannah Conference scheduled to hold from May 6th to 13rd, 2026 in Kano.
In their separate remarks, the representative of Nigeria School Sports Federation (NSSF) Rabiu Abdu Boss and the head of schools sports of the the state ministry of education, Malam Kabiru Shehu have expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the participants.
Malam Kabiru Shehu however, said that the school sports section of the state ministry has conclude plans to hold a meeting with the winners’ head coaches with a view to ensure representative schools excel in the upcoming Savannah Conference and the national finals in Lagos later in the year.
They commended the Kano state government, NSSF and sponsors, Nestle Milo company for their commitment towards the development of the game across the country.
Highlights of the event include presentation of trophies to the winners, Rumfa and Ahmadiyya Colleges by the representative of NSSF Malam Rabiu Abdu Boss at the occasion.
