Rurum Condemns Killing of Hausa Travelers in Edo, Demands Justice

The lawmaker representing Rano, Kibiya and Bunkure Federal Constituency, Rt.Hon. Kabiru Alhassan Rurum has condemned the killing of innocent Hausa travelers in Uromi, Edo State, calling for urgent government intervention.
Rurum in a statement signed and issues to newsmen, revealed the victims, mostly hunters from Kano State, were reportedly attacked by members of the Edo State Security Corps and local vigilantes while traveling for Sallah celebrations.
According to Rurum, seven of the victims were from Torankawa in Sanda Ward, Bunkure Local Government Area part of his constituency while another remains hospitalized with severe injuries. “Others hailed from Kura and Garko Local Government Areas of Kano State” he said.
Describing the incident as a gross human rights violation, Rurum decried what he called a growing pattern of hostility and violence against Northerners in parts of the South-East and South-South.
He emphasized that such extrajudicial killings were unacceptable and must be addressed decisively.
Rurum urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Inspector General of Police, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) to ensure a thorough investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice.
He also called for stronger measures to protect all Nigerians, regardless of ethnic or religious backgrounds.
Expressing solidarity with the victims’ families and the people of Kano State, Rurum prayed for the souls of the deceased and strength for their loved ones to endure the loss.
