Salma Dauda Aliyu Unveils Plans to Establish National Foundation for Orphans
By Abubakar Rabilu Gombe
Salma Dauda Aliyu, a dedicated advocate for vulnerable children, has announced plans to establish a nationwide foundation to support orphans and marginalized individuals across Nigeria.
The initiative, she explained, would prioritize orphans living in local communities, particularly those whose fathers have passed away, leaving their mothers to shoulder the burden of caregiving alone.
“There are countless children living without adequate support simply because they aren’t in government-recognized orphanages. They deserve targeted care and attention,” Salma said.
The proposed foundation aims to address critical needs such as access to education, healthcare, nutrition, and clothing for orphans. Salma emphasized her belief that children in neighborhoods are often overlooked compared to those in institutional care.
“I’m not against assisting orphans in orphanages, but those living within neighborhoods often lack any form of support and need our urgent attention,” she remarked.
Salma disclosed plans to sponsor an initial group of 20 orphans from her local community as a pilot program. This initiative will include enrolling them in schools, providing educational materials, and covering their basic needs, such as food and clothing.
“Even though public schools are free, many parents cannot afford the basic necessities to send their children. This is where compassionate individuals must step in to fill the gap,” she noted.
In her appeal to the public, Salma urged influential politicians, philanthropists, and corporate organizations to support the cause. “Helping orphans is a noble act rewarded both on Earth and in the hereafter. Bringing joy to these children is a pathway to paradise,” she stated.
Salma also highlighted the plight of single mothers who struggle to provide for their children, often enduring hunger alongside them. “Many single mothers are unable to afford even basic meals, forcing their children to live in severe hardship. This neglect pushes some orphans into deviant behavior,” she explained.
The inspiration behind the foundation, Salma revealed, came from the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Dr. Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, whose unwavering support for orphans and vulnerable groups serves as her guiding example. “His leadership and compassion are motivating. I hope to replicate his efforts on a national scale by extending care to those in need,” she added.
As part of her broader vision, Salma plans to establish a dedicated center during Ramadan to feed 15 to 20 orphans daily. “This center will serve as a safe space where orphans can enjoy nutritious meals and feel loved, just like children with parents,” she said.
She called on government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and corporate entities to prioritize programs that uplift orphans and single mothers. “Supporting these groups is essential to alleviating their suffering and creating a better, more inclusive society,” Salma emphasized.
With her vision and determination, Salma Dauda Aliyu aims to inspire a collective movement to support Nigeria’s most vulnerable, transforming lives and communities through compassion and action.
