SCI, PLAN, DAG moves to tackle 417,661 out of schools children in Jigawa, Kano, Sokoto

A non governmental Organizations, Save the Children International (SCI), PLAN International and DAG with support from EU targetted to address 417,661 out of schools children challenges in three northern state of Jigawa, Kano and Sokoto.

The project, titled “Accelerating Basic Education and Livelihood Opportunities for Children and Youth in North-Western Nigeria,” aims to provide education and skills training to 417,661 children.

Tobi Ransomed, Education Advisor at PLAN Nigeria and lead of the EU consortium, announced the project’s launch at a workshop held on Wednesday in Dutse. The three-year initiative will be implemented across 12 local government areas by Save the Children International, PLAN International, and Development Aid from People to People (DAG).

Ransomed explained that the project will focus on improving literacy and numeracy skills among the targeted children. Additionally, over 12 million people are expected to benefit indirectly from the initiative.

Upon completion of the project, 60,000 children will receive further support, including livelihood training and scholarships to continue their education.

Vandi Hyelladi, Program Manager and Deputy Consortium Lead for the EU, urged stakeholders, including parents, traditional and religious leaders, government officials, community organizations, and the media, to collaborate and support the project to achieve its goals of reducing the number of out-of-school children in the region.

Jigawa State Deputy Governor Aminu Usman Gumel, representing Governor Malam Umar Namadi, expressed gratitude to the EU and its partners for selecting the state for this important initiative. He noted that the project aligns with the state government’s twelve-point agenda and assured full support and cooperation. Gumel encouraged other partners to follow suit and contribute to the development of the region.
