S’Court Affirms Akwa Ibom Governor’s Election

The Supreme Court on Thursday, affirmed Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom state as the duely elected governor of the state after dismissing three separate appeals filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC), Young Progressives Congress, and New Nigerian Peoples Party, along with their candidates, challenging his election.

The dismissal came after the parties’ counsels chose to withdraw the appeals, where they sought the removal of the state governor, alleging certificate forgery and other grounds.

In November 2023, both the tribunal and the Court of Appeal in Lagos had already affirmed Umo Eno as the rightful winner of the governorship election held on March 18, 2023, in Akwa Ibom State.

The appellate court’s judgment specifically dismissed three separate appeals against the governor’s election.
