Sen. Lalong Sponsors Bill to Alter 1999 Constitution

Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District and former Governor of Plateau State Simon Lalong has sponsored a Bill seeking to alter the 1999 Constitution to address the yearnings of Nigerians.

During the last plenary for the week, Senator Lalong’s Bill “Constituion of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 Alteration Bill 2024 SB 532” passed first reading at the floor of the Senate.

In a statement signed by his Special Assistant media, Makut Macham, said
At the plenary chaired by the Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin, the Senator Lalong emphasized the significance of the Bill which he said will enable the nation take care of various national issues that require constitutional backing for smooth governance, unity and prosperity.

He said there are many issues requiring the alteration of the Constitution for Nigerian to get it right for the citizens to have a better nation.

Meanwhile, Senator Lalong has attended a two day retreat of the Senate Ad-hoc Committee on Constitution Review in held at the Bristol Palace Hotel Kano.

He spoke to journalists where he again emphasized the importance of addressing issues such as marginalisation, defined role of traditional rulers in governance, the citizenship question among others.
